James Taogoa Kowice Student File

Student file of James Taogoa Kowice, a member of the Pueblo Nation, who entered the school on October 18, 1894 and ultimately departed on June 23, 1909. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, a returned student survey, a trade/position card, a former student response postcard, a news clipping, a progress/conduct card, and a report after leaving. The file indicates Kowice was working for a lumber company in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1910, a farmer in Casa Blanca, New Mexico in 1911 and was working as a storekeeper in Gallup, New Mexico in 1912.

Note: The file indicates that the student first entered the school as James Kary Taogoa with one living parent. When he reentered the school in 1904 both parents were deceased and George Kowice Analla (a former Carlisle student) is listed as his home address. His name is also changed to James Taogoa Kowice.  In George's file, he refers to James as his brother.

Joseph Washington Student File

Student file of Joseph Washington, a member of the Cherokee Nation, who entered the school on April 5, 1898 and departed on June 22, 1904. The file contains a student information card, letters/correspondence, a former student response postcard, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving. The file indicates Washington was a soldier in the U.S. Army, a police officer at the Cherokee Indian School in Cherokee, North Carolina in 1911 and a disciplinarian in Cherokee, North Carolina in 1915.

Note: Washington married fellow student Stella Blythe.

Student file of Fred Waterman, a member of the Onondaga Nation, who entered the school on June 29, 1900 and ultimately departed on July 6, 1906. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards and an application for enrollment.

Arthur Coons Student File

Student file of Arthur Coons, a member of the Pawnee Nation, who entered the school on September 11, 1907 and departed on June 22, 1910. The file contains a news clipping, a student information card, a returned student survey, an outing record, a photograph, correspondence, a progress card, a physical record, an application for enrollment, and a report after leaving that indicates Coons was a farmer in Pawnee, Oklahoma in 1911.

Reuben Charles Student File

Student file of Reuben Charles, a member of the Seneca Nation, who entered the school on September 2, 1908 and ultimately departed on June 9, 1912. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, applications for enrollment, medical/physical records, a report after leaving, a former student response postcard, correspondence, trade/position record cards, a progress/conduct card, and a returned student survey. The files indicate that in 1913 Charles was a bookkeeper living in Cleveland, Ohio.

Note: In this file the student is referred to as Reuben Charles and Reuben Sundown.
