Angus L. Jacobs Student File

Mary Ann Jackson Student File

Student file of Mary Ann Jackson, a member of the St. Regis Nation, who entered the school on June 29, 1900 and departed on June 24, 1904. The file contains a returned student survey and a report after leaving. The file indicates Jackson was a widow, her husband Frank Jackson having passed, and that she was working in a hotel in Massena, New York in 1910.

A last name on the report after leaving card had been erased and replaced with the name Fisher, which was a mistake by school administrators. The information in the returned student survey does not reflect Mary Ann Fisher's biographical information; in 1910, she was married to Paul Agosa and living in Michigan.

Jacob Bero Student File

Student file of Jacob Bero, a member of the Iroquois Nation, who entered the school on August 10, 1901, and ultimately departed on June 5, 1907.  The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains a student information card, correspondence, a returned student survey, an application for enrollment, a former student response postcard, and a report after leaving indicating that Bero was working as a laborer in Hogansburg, New York in 1913.

Note: Students Jacob Bero and Paul Bero were probably brothers.

Mary Cook (Ovwari) Student File [entered 1901]

Student file of Mary Cook (Ovwari), a member of the Mohawk Nation, who entered the school on August 10, 1901, and ultimately departed on January 24, 1910. The file contains student information cards, a physical record, an application for enrollment, a progress card, and correspondence. The files show that Cook departed from Carlisle after marrying George Gardner (Chippewa), who became the band leader at the Hayward Indian School.

Records indicate that four individuals named Mary Cook/Cooke attended the Carlisle Indian School. The first Mary Cook (Chippewa) enrolled at Carlisle in 1889, age 13. The second Mary Cook/Cooke (Mohawk), sometimes denoted in school records as “Mary Cook #1”, enrolled in 1901, age 13. The third, Mary Belle Cook/Cooke (St. Regis), enrolled in 1906, age 12. The fourth Mary/Marie Cook/Cooke (Mohawk) enrolled in 1916, age 14.

Margaret De Lorimiere Progress Card

The information card indicates that she graduated in 1909, studied dressmaking, married William B. King Jr., and was living in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania in 1913.

Mary Cook Student Information Card [entered 1901]

Student information card of Mary Cook, a member of the Iroquois Nation, who entered the school on August 10, 1901 and departed on August 17, 1906. The file indicates Cook was married and living in Keshena, Wisconsin.

Records indicate that four individuals named Mary Cook/Cooke attended the Carlisle Indian School. The first Mary Cook (Chippewa) enrolled at Carlisle in 1889, age 13. The second Mary Cook/Cooke (Mohawk), sometimes denoted in school records as “Mary Cook #1”, enrolled in 1901, age 13. The third, Mary Belle Cook/Cooke (St. Regis), enrolled in 1906, age 12. The fourth Mary/Marie Cook/Cooke (Mohawk) enrolled in 1916, age 14.

Note: Cook married former student George Gardner. Although this card does not reflect it, she later re-enrolled and ultimately left the school in 1910 upon her marriage.

The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving. The file indicates Wood was a dressmaker in Hogansburg, New York in 1911.

Student file of Minnie White, a member of the St. Regis Nation, who entered the school on November 1, 1901 and ultimately departed on June 19, 1911. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains a student information card, photographs, news clippings, returned student surveys, progress/conduct cards, an outing evaluation, applications for enrollment, medical/physical records, an outing records, a report after leaving, and correspondence. The file indicates White was a teacher at a reservation school in Hogansburg, New York in 1914.

Note: In this file the student is identified as Minnie White, Minnie White Wheeler, and Mrs. Ralph Wheeler.
