Edward Peters Student File

Student file of Edward Peters, a member of the Chippewa Nation, who entered the school on August 7, 1889, graduated in 1899, and ultimately departed on August 7, 1899. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains a news clipping, student information cards, a returned student survey, a former student response postcard, a trade/position record, letters/correspondence about his daughter and other students he recommended to attend Carlisle, and a report after leaving. The file indicates Peters was a farmer and barber in Rose Bush, South Dakota in 1907 and working as a fireman and engineer in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan in 1911.

Note: in this file the student is identified as Edward W. Peters and Edward W. Peters.

Joseph Blackbear (Goaso) Student File

Student file of Joseph Blackbear (Goaso), a member of the Cheyenne Nation, who entered the school on September 15, 1889 and ultimately graduated in 1898, departing on September 19, 1898. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, correspondence, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving indicating that in 1910 Blackbear had married Cora Blind Man and was living in Hammon, Oklahoma, working as a store clerk.

Student file of Robert Emmett, a member of the Assiniboine Nation, who entered the school on June 19, 1891, graduated in 1899, and departed on November 15, 1899. The file contains a student information card and correspondence. The files indicate that after leaving the school Emmett entered the Army and fought in the Philippines.

Caleb Sickles Student File

Student file of Caleb Sickles, a member of the Oneida Nation, who entered the school on August 28, 1891, graduated in 1898, and ultimately departed on June 12, 1900. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains photographs, student information cards, a report after leaving, former student response postcards, returned student surveys, and letters/correspondence. The file indicates Sickles played on the football team at the Carlisle Indian School, attended the Dickinson College Preparatory School (Conway Hall) from 1898 to 1899, played professional baseball, attended the Ohio Medical University from 1900 to 1904, and was a dentist in Tiffin, Ohio from 1907 to 1913.

Edwin Moore Student File

Student file of Edwin Moore, a member of the Sac & Fox Nation, who entered the school on December 19, 1893, graduated in 1901, and departed on March 19, 1901. The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, a news clipping, a trade/position record card, and a report after leaving. The file indicates Moore was a student at the Haskell Institute and the Lawrence Business School after leaving Carlisle and was working as a clerk in the Osage Indian Service in Pawhuska, Oklahoma in 1911.

Genus L. Baird Student File

Student file of Genus L. Baird, a member of the Oneida Nation, who entered the school on June 21, 1894 and ultimately graduated in 1902, departing on August 31, 1902. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains a returned student survey, student information cards, a news clipping, correspondence, and a trade/position record card.

The file indicates that Baird was a prominent baseball player, worked on the "New Era" in Rosebud, South Dakota, and at the Rosebud Boarding School in Rosebud, South Dakota.  The file also indicates that Baird worked as an assistant printer at the Carlisle Indian School in Carlisle, Pennsylvania from 1902 to 1905, and as a faculty member at the Pipestone Indian Service in Minnesota in 1909, and was living in Chin Lee, Arizona in 1915.

Edward Rogers (Enwwayie dung) Student File

Student file of Edward Rogers (Enwwayie dung), a member of the Chippewa Nation, who entered the school on November 15, 1894, graduated in 1897, and departed on July 2, 1901. The file contains news clippings, former student response postcards, a student information card, a returned student survey, a report after leaving, and letters/correspondence.

The file indicates Rogers was the captain of the 1900 Carlisle football team and later coached the team.  The file also indicates that Rogers attended the Dickinson College Preparatory School (Conway Hall), Dickinson College, Dickinson Law School, and the University of Minnesota Law School, was practicing law in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1907, was an attorney at law in Walker, Minnesota from 1909 to 1913, and was elected to the head chief of the Chippewas in 1913.

Ulysses Ferris Student File

Student file of Ulysses Ferris, a member of the Klamath Nation, who entered the school on July 26, 1897 and departed on February 28, 1900. The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving indicating that in 1911 Ferris had married Pearl Orcutt and was mining in Weitchpec, California.

James E. Johnson Student File

Student file of James E. Johnson, a member of the Stockbridge Nation, who entered the school on November 18, 1897 and ultimately departed on June 1, 1904. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains a former student response postcard, a photograph, student information cards, a returned student survey, correspondence, news clippings, and a report after leaving.

The file indicates Johnson was an All American quarterback and captain for the Carlisle Football team, finished Dickinson College Preparatory School (Conway Hall) in 1902, attended Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania for two years, graduated from the Northwestern Dental School in Chicago, Illinois in 1907. Additionally, Johnson was working as a dentist in Chicago, Illinois in 1908, as a dental surgeon in San Juan, Puerto Rico from 1909 to 1916.
