James B. Welch Student File

Student file of James B. Welch, a member of the Cherokee Nation, who entered the school on September 20, 1912 and departed on September 27, 1916. The file contains student information cards, medical/physical records, an application for enrollment, outing evaluations, a financial aid form, and correspondence related to outings and financial transactions. The file indicates that Welch returned to Cherokee, North Carolina to establish himself in a blacksmith shop in 1916.

Note: These documents were found filed at the U.S. National Archives in the same folder as documents related to James B. Welch. The records for the two different students have been separated into files 4555a and 4555b.

Note: There is some confusion in the school recordkeeping for the students James B. Welch and James G. Welch. They are different people. This card was originally for James B. Welch, but information for James G. Welch was added later, as if he had re-enrolled. James G. Welch entered on October 12, 1909 and departed on January 23, 1911.

Clarence Welch Student File

Student file of Clarence Welch, a member of the Cherokee Nation, who entered the school on September 16, 1913, and ultimately departed on July 5, 1918. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and re-entered. The file contains student information cards, applications for enrollment, correspondence, physical records, financial transactions, an outing record, and a certificate of promotion. The files indicate Welch was interested in furthering his education after leaving Carlisle.
