The file indicates Wheelock had just entered the Indian Service as a housekeeper in Grow Crock, South Dakota in 1913.

Henry Vinson Student File

Student file of Henry Vinson, a member of the Clallam Nation, who entered the school on December 30, 1908. No departure date is given. The file contains a progress/conduct card, an application for enrollment, a report after leaving, outing records, and a former student response postcard. The file indicates that Vinson worked for the Paxtang Electric Co. in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in 1910, was an electrician at the Majestic Hotel in Bangor, Pennsylvania in 1913, and an electrician in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania in 1913.

Note: Information in other records shows Vinson first entered the school on September 23, 1903, graduated in 1912, and departed on September 10,1912. The information in this file pertains primarily to his reenrollment in 1908.

The file also contains documents discussing Emma's diagnosis of appendicitis and the best facility for her to be treated in. The file indicates Newashe was a housewife living in Oklahoma in 1913.

The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file indicates McDonald was studying at the Haskell Institute in Lawrence Kansas in 1913 with plans to graduate in June 1914.

Margaret La Vatta Student File

Student file of Margaret La Vatta, a member of the Shoshone nation, who entered the school on October 1, 1907 and departed on April 11, 1912. The file includes a news clipping, a trade card, a returned student survey, a student information card, a report after leaving, a progress card, an outing evaluation, and an outing record. La Vatta married a man named Robert F. LaSalle, and was brought before federal authorities due to their different races. After they proved their feelings for each other to be true the charges were dropped.

Note: In the file the student is identified as Margaret La Vatta, Marguirite La Vatta and Mrs. R. F. LaSalle.

Gustave Welch Student File

Student file of Gustave Welch, a member of the Chippewa Nation, who entered the school on September 22, 1908, graduated in 1912, and ultimately departed on August 5, 1915. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, news clippings, photographs, an outing record, Conway Hall progress reports, financial transactions, a trade/position record card, an application for enrollment, a progress/conduct card, and letters/correspondence.

The file indicates Welch was the caption of the 1913 Carlisle football team, an assistant football coach at the school in 1915, was attending the Dickinson Law School in 1916 and 1917, and enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at the Officers Reserve Training Camp in the 10th Company at Fort Niagara, New York in 1917 eventually becoming a caption in 1918.

Student file of Agnes Waite, a member of the Serrano Nation, who entered the school on October 24, 1908, graduated in 1912, and departed on September 5, 1912. The file contains a progress/conduct card, a news clipping, a student information card, applications for enrollment, medical/physical records, outing evaluations, financial transactions, a report after leaving, outing records, returned student surveys and correspondence. The file also includes a list of subjects offered at the Glendale Union High School in California during the 1912-1913 academic year as well as indicates that Agnes was a teacher at Ft. Yuma Indian School in Yuma, Arizona, in 1915.

Note: At the time of the scanning at the U.S. National Archives, a document in this student file seemed to be related to a different student, Fred Cardin. Those documents have now been included with the Fred Cardin file: NARA_1327_box 140_folder 5529.
