This map shows the locations of off-reservation Indian Boarding Schools throughout the United States. These 25 schools were fully managed and directed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. (There were more than 300 other schools, located both on and off reservations, that received subsidies from the federal government for their operations, typically based on the number of students.)
As you move your mouse cursor over a number on the map, the name of the appropriate off-reservation Indian Boarding School will appear.
