James R. Wheelock Student File

Student file of James R. Wheelock, a member of the Oneida Nation, who entered the school on August 30, 1889 and ultimately departed on June 30, 1897. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, financial transactions, a photograph, returned student survey, news clippings, a report after leaving, and letters/correspondence. The file indicates Wheelock was the bandmaster and assistant printer at the Carlisle Indian School for five years, was the proprietor and conductor of Wheelock's Concert Band in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1907 to 1910, and the conductor of the Hagerstown Municipal Band in Hagerstown, Maryland in 1917.

Bessie Nick (Eganola) Student File

Student File of Bessie Nick (Eganola), a member of the Cherokee Nation, who entered the school on March 13, 1896, and departed on June 26, 1905. The file contains a student information card, and a report after leaving indicating Nick was married and a housewife in 1910.

Note: This file originally contained student information cards for another student named Chiltoski (Tossie) Nick, who is Bessie's brother. Minnie Nick is a sister of Bessie and Tossie.

Chiltoski Nick Student File

Student file for Chiltoski Nick, a member of the Cherokee Nation, who entered the school on March 13, 1896, and ultimately departed the school on March 22, 1905. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains three student information cards indicating that Chiltoski, who also went by the nickname Tossie, graduated with the class of 1905.

Note: These student information cards were found in the student file of Bessie Nick, a sister of Chiltoski. Minnie Nick is another sister of Chiltoski.

Chiltoski Nick Student Information Card

Student information card of Chiltoski (here Tossie) Nick, a member of the Cherokee Nation, who entered the school on March 13, 1896 and departed on March 22, 1905. (Tossie was a nickname for Chiltoski.) The information card indicates that Nick graduated in 1905, studied painting, was a member of the Infantry, and was living in Presidio, California in 1914. 

Note: Bessie Nick and Minnie Nick are sisters of Chiltoski (Tossie) Nick.
