Note: At the time of scanning at the U. S. National Archives, a letter in this student file seemed to relate to a student named John White. That document has now been included with the John White file: NARA_RG 75_Series 1327_box 130_folder 5132.

Mary Belle Cooke Student File [entered 1906]

Student file of Mary Belle Cooke, a member of the St. Regis Nation, who entered the school on October 30, 1906, and departed on June 19, 1911. The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, former student response postcards, letters, a conduct card, an outing record, and a report after leaving indicating she was a domestic living in Hogansburg, New York in 1915.

Records indicate that four individuals named Mary Cook/Cooke attended the Carlisle Indian School. The first Mary Cook (Chippewa) enrolled at Carlisle in 1889, age 13. The second Mary Cook/Cooke (Mohawk), sometimes denoted in school records as “Mary Cook #1”, enrolled in 1901, age 13. The third, Mary Belle Cook/Cooke (St. Regis), enrolled in 1906, age 12. The fourth Mary/Marie Cook/Cooke (Mohawk) enrolled in 1916, age 14.

Note: One of the documents in this file was originally found in the student file for another individual, also named Mary Cook: NARA_RG 75_Series 1327_box 50_folder 2481.
