Justin Head (Rat Head) Student File

Student file of Justin Head, a member of the Apache Nation, who entered the school on February 2, 1884 and departed on March 1, 1892. The file contains student information cards, a returned student survey, land grants, parole records, an outing evaluation, letters/correspondence concerning Head's parole, a trade/position record card, a medical/physical record, financial transactions, newspaper clippings, a Senate resolution, and a report after leaving. The file indicates that Head was living in Florence, Arizona in 1911 and living in Trenton, New Jersey in 1915.

Note: At the time of scanning in the U.S. National Archives, several documents in this folder seemed to relate to a different student, Henry Herrara. Those documents have now been included in the Henry Herrera file: NARA_RG 75_Series 1327_box 107_folder 4523.

Asa Daklugie (Da-klu-gie) Student File

Student file of Asa Daklugie, a member of the Apache Nation, who entered the school on December 8, 1886, and departed on November 7, 1895.  The file contains student information cards, a former student response postcard, a returned student survey, correspondence, and a report after leaving indicating that, in 1913, Daklugie was working as a laborer in Mescalero, New Mexico.

Note: Daklugie married former student Ramona Chihuahua.

The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, newspaper clippings, a trade/position record card, a returned student survey, letters/correspondence, and a report after leaving. The file indicates Patterson was a carpenter in Lewiston, New York in 1909 and 1913 and living in Lewiston, New York in 1916 and 1918.

Student file of Julius Brown, a member of the Chippewa Nation, who entered the school on August 27, 1892, and departed on July 4, 1893.  The file contains a student information card, correspondence, and a report after leaving indicating that Brown was working in Real Estate in White Earth, Minnesota, in 1910.

Note: Brown was the father of student Caroline (Carrie) Brown.

Frank Cajune Student File

Student file of Frank Cajune, a member of the Chippewa Nation, who entered the school on September 13, 1895, and departed on July 5, 1897. The file contains a student information card, a newspaper clipping, correspondence, a position card, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving. The files indicate that Frank Cajune was working in Real Estate in 1910 in Mahnomen, Minnesota.

Note: Cajune married fellow student Julia van Wert and was the father of student Frances Cajune. Some of the correspondence in this file concerns Frank Cajune's attempts to enroll his daughter Frances Cajune at the school.

Joseph Sheehan Student File

Student file of Joseph Sheehan, a member of the Alaskan Nation, who entered the school on August 21, 1899, and departed on July 12, 1907. The file contains student information cards, letters/correspondence, news clippings, a returned student survey, a photo postcard, former student response postcards, a pamphlet for the YMCA of Frederick, Maryland, and a report after leaving indicating that, in 1914, Sheehan was working as clerk in Baltimore, Maryland.

William Adams Student File

Student file of William Adams, a member of the Caddo Nation, who entered the school on February 9, 1903 and departed on January 30, 1908. The file contains a student information card, medical/physical records, a returned student survey, a trade/position record card, letters/correspondence regarding treatment of tuberculosis, and a report after leaving. The file indicates Adams served with a field artillery detachment for the Army, stationed at West Point, New York in 1911, was living in Carlisle, Pennsylvania in 1914, and living in Cumberland, Maryland in 1915.

Note: The student was also known as Willie Adams.

Rufus Youngbird Student File

Student file of Rufus Youngbird, a member of the Cherokee Nation, who entered the school on July 6, 1903, and ultimately departed on May 9, 1913. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, newspaper clippings, former student response postcards, outing records, medical/physical records, correspondence, a progress/conduct card, a returned student survey, applications for enrollment, and a report after leaving.

The file indicates Youngbird was working as a chauffeur in Morrisville, Pennsylvania in 1911, as a machinist in Trenton, New Jersey in 1911, as a chauffeur in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1912 and 1913, and was working in Merion, Pennsylvania in 1916.

Note: in this file the student is identified as Rufus Youngbird and Rufus Young.

John Greensky (Shawahueyhig) Student File

Student file of John Greensky, a member of the Chippewa Nation, who entered the school on October 4, 1903, and departed on July 1, 1908.  The file contains a student information card, correspondence, and a report after leaving indicating that, in 1911, Greensky was working as a laborer in Chicago, Illinois.  The file also contains correspondence between Greensky and Nellie Robertson Denny indicating that Greensky was looking for work with the Ford Motor Company.

Student file of Henry Burton, a member of the Alaskan (Tsimshian) Nation, who entered the school on November 3, 1903, and departed on September 1, 1908.  The file contains student information cards, a report after leaving, a progress card, correspondence, and a report after leaving indicating that, in 1910, Burton was working as a tailor in Kitchikan, Alaska.

Student file of Bert Miller, a member of the Stockbridge Nation, who entered the school on August 24, 1905 and departed on September 30, 1910. The file contains a student information card, an application for enrollment, a returned student survey, letters/correspondences, trade/position cards, a progress/conduct card, and a report after leaving indicating that he was a baseball player in Gresham, Wisconsin in 1911.

Charles Guyon Student File

Student file of Charles Guyon, a member of the Chippewa Nation, who entered the school on September 13, 1905 and departed on September 15, 1906. The file contains a student information card, newspaper clippings, a trade/position record card, letters/correspondence, a returned student survey, an application for enrollment, and a report after leaving.

The file indicates Guyon played football as a student in 1905, was a ballplayer in Chicago, Illinois in 1910, was working as the manager of the college department of A. G. Spalding Bros. in Atlanta, Georgia in 1911 and 1914, was a coach for the Georgia School of Technology in 1915 and 1916, and was living in Atlanta, Georgia in 1917.

Note: in this file the student is identified as Charles Guyon and Charles Wahoo.

Peter J. Jordan Student File

Student file of Peter J. Jordan, a member of the Chippewa Nation, who entered the school on September 7, 1907 and ultimately departed on September 30, 1914. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains photographs, a returned student survey, an application for enrollment, student information cards, a medical/physical record, financial transactions, and letters/correspondence. The file indicates Jordan played football and baseball at Carlisle, was the Captain of Company A at Carlisle, and had enrolled at the Keewatin Academy in Villa Louis, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin in 1914.

Note: Some of Peter J. Jordan's documents were originally found filed at the U.S. National Archives in the folder of another student; Peter Jordan, RG 75_Series 1327_box 22_folder 1005.

Note: In this file there is also an application for a coal mining lease covering Navajo tribal lands from L. A. Myers on November 20, 1937.

Lida Shongo Student File

Student file of Lida Shongo, a member of the Seneca Nation, who entered the school on February 14, 1909 and departed on September 3, 1914. The file contains applications for enrollment, a student information card, a medical/physical record, outing evaluations, outing records of student, a report after leaving, a progress/conduct card, financial transactions, and letters/correspondence. The records indicate that after leaving the school Lida was living in Irving, New York before quickly finding employment in Perrysburg, New York at the J. N. Adams Hospital in 1914. In 1915 she was living in Gowanda, New York and married to William Scott. The latest record shows Lida living in Little Valley, New York in 1917.

Manley George Student File

Student file of Manley George, a member of the Cherokee Nation, who entered the school on August 25, 1910 and ultimately departed on January 1, 1913. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, trade/position record cards, applications for enrollment, outing evaluations, correspondence, medical/physical records, a progress/conduct card, and an outing record. The file indicates George was working at a cotton mill in Whittier, North Carolina in 1915, working for the Southern Railroad Company in Whittier, North Carolina in 1916, and living in Cherokee, North Carolina in 1917.

Daniel Plante Student File

Student file of Daniel Plante, a member of the Chippewa Nation, who entered the school on September 6, 1910, and departed on October 24, 1913. The file contains a student information card, an application for enrollment, medical/physical records, outing records, letters/correspondence, progress/conducts cards, financial transactions, and trade/position record cards. The file indicates Plante was living in Belcourt, North Dakota in 1913 and 1915.

Note: The student is referred to as Daniel Plante and Daniel Plaunt.

Pearl Bonser Student File

Student file of Pearl Bonser, a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on September 16, 1910 and departed on April 4, 1914. The file contains a student information card, a medical/physical record, a progress/conduct card, financial transactions, a news clipping, a report after leaving, a photograph, and letters/correspondence. The file indicates Bonser attended the YMCA conference in 1913, was awarded an essay prize through the Commissioner of Indian Affairs, and a housewife living in Altoona, Pennsylvania in 1914 and 1915.

Pablo Herrera Student File

Student file of Pablo Herrera, a member of the Pueblo Nation, who entered the school on October 15, 1910 and ultimately departed on October 10, 1917. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains a news clipping, student information cards, letters/correspondence, applications for enrollment, outing records, a progress/conduct card, an outing evaluation, medical/physical records, financial transactions, and letters/correspondence. The file indicates Herrera was the disciplinarian at the Greenville Indian School in Greenville California in 1916, worked at the Ford Motor Co. in 1917 on the outing program, and enlisted in the Aviation Section of the United States Army in 1917 and was stationed at Kelly Field in San Antonio, Texas.

Daniel Needham Student File

Student file of Daniel Needham, a member of the Chippewa Nation, who entered the school on September 27, 1911, and ultimately departed on February 5, 1915. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, letters/correspondence, financial transactions, medical/physical records, applications for enrollment, outing records, and outing evaluations. The file indicates that Needham worked on outing at the St. Charles Place Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey in 1914 and was attending the Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kansas in 1915 and 1916.

Max Favel Student File

Student file of Max Favel, a member of the Colville Nation, who entered the school on January 8, 1913 and departed on November 20, 1913. The file contains newspaper clippings, trade/position record cards, a student information card, outing records, outing evaluations, financial transactions, applications for enrollment, medical/physical records, letters/correspondence. The file indicates Favel was living in York, Pennsylvania in 1914.

Note: in this file the student is identified as Maxime E. Favel, Max Farvel, Mexwell E. Favel, and Max E. Fivel.

Note: Other records show Favel first entered the school on November 4, 1911. The documents in this file relate to his later reenrollment.

Joe Gilman Student File

Student file of Joe Gilman, a member of the Chippewa Nation, who entered the school on August 9, 1912 and departed on September 18, 1915. The file contains letters/correspondence, a photograph, a student information card, a medical/physical record, an outing record, a news clipping, and financial transactions.

The file indicates that Gilman worked during the outing program at A. Miller and Co., Bethlehem Steel Works, and the Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan. Gilman remained with the Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan after leaving the school in 1915 and was selling Ford cars in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1916, and was a sales manager at the Minneapolis Auto Laundry Garage in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1917.

Francis Bresette Student File

Student file of Francis Bresette, a member of the Chippewa Nation, who entered the school on September 19, 1912 and ultimately departed on September 21, 1915. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains applications for enrollment, medical/physical records, an outing record, student information cards, letters/correspondence, and a financial transaction. The file indicates Bresette graduated from St. Mary's School in Odanah, Wisconsin in 1916.

Madella Anderson Student File

Student file of Madella Anderson, a member of the Tuscarora Nation, who entered the school on September 27, 1912 and departed on July 6, 1915. The file contains an application for enrollment, a student information card, medical/physical records, outing evaluations, an outing record, financial transactions, and letters/correspondence including correspondence regarding the amount of money sent to Anderson after her departure. The file indicates Anderson was living in Lewiston, New York in 1915 and working as a housekeeper in Lewiston, New York in 1916.

Note: Students Madella Anderson, Melissa Anderson, and Robert Anderson were siblings.

Beeley Derrisaw Student File
