Jerome Kennerly (The Calf takes a seat) Student File

Student file of Jerome Kennerly (The Calf takes a seat), a member of the Piegan Nation, who entered the school on March 2, 1893 and ultimately departed on February 8, 1911. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains letters/correspondence, an outing record, a progress/conduct card, an application for enrollment, trade/position cards, student information cards, a medical/physical record, a photograph, and a report after leaving.

The report after leaving indicates that Jerome was a laborer Cut Bank, Montana in 1911. Correspondence between Jerome and the school then shows his residence in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1913 and his marriage to former Carlisle student Miss Fannie Charley. Lastly, correspondence between the school and Kennerly family including Jerome indicates that Jerome was a soldier serving on the S.S. Tuscania when it was sunk by the Germans in 1918. Jerome survived and ended up in England with the 158th Aero Squadron.

The file contains student information cards, an application for enrollment, a returned student survey, a newspaper clipping, a conduct card, and a report after leaving indicating that in 1911 Aiken had married Martha Ford and was farming in Bigheart, Oklahoma. 

Note: Students John Aiken and Elizabeth Aiken are probably siblings.

The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and re-entered. The file contains an application for enrollment, student information cards, and a report after leaving indicating she was married and living in Macy, Nebraska, in 1910.

Note: This student is known as both Marguerite Fremont and Marguerite Freemont in the file.

Francis Freemont (The-tha-tha-ga) Student File

Student file of Francis Freemont (The-tha-tha-ga), a member of the Omaha Nation, who entered the school on September 7, 1895, and ultimately departed on October 9, 1906. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, an application for enrollment, progress/conduct cards from Dickinson College Preparatory School (Conway Hall), a returned student survey, and a report after leaving. The file indicates Freemont was a farmer in Walthill, Nebraska in 1910.

Note: Freemont married fellow student Melinda Cayuga.

David Bird Student File

Student file of David Bird, a member of the Cherokee Nation, who entered the school on October 8, 1895 and ultimately departed on April 15, 1917. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, a returned student survey, applications for enrollment, medical/physical records, an outing evaluation, a progress/conduct card, a report after leaving, an outing record, financial transactions including credit from the Athletic Association to local merchants, and letters/correspondence. The file indicates Bird was on the football team and was transferring to the Charlotte, North Carolina branch of the Ford Motor Company in 1917.

The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file indicates that Lyon was a member of the footbal team at Carlisle and was farming in Syracuse, New York in 1911.

The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, an application for enrollment, letters/correspondence, and a report after leaving indicating Cheago was working as a nurse in Phoenix, Arizona in 1915.

Shela Brown Guthrie (Che-ke-kah) Student File

Student file of Shela Brown Guthrie (Che-ke-kah), a member of the Sac & Fox Nation, who entered the school on August 29, 1896 and ultimately departed on May 7, 1911. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, an application for enrollment, medical/physical records, a news clipping, an outing record, a progress/conduct card, a returned student survey, trade/position record card, and a report after leaving indicating that Guthrie was keeping house for her sister and herself in the Sac & Fox Agency, Oklahoma in 1910 and living in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1911.

Note: In this file the student is identified as Shela Guthrie Brown, Shelah Guthrie, and Shela B. Guthrie, as well as Che-ke-kah and Chi-ki-ka.

Fred Roundstone Student File

Student file of Fred Roundstone, a member of the Cheyenne Nation, who entered the school on September 9, 1896, and ultimately departed on February 26, 1908. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, former student response postcards, a returned student survey, an application for enrollment, and a report after leaving. The file indicates that Roundstone attended the Fort Shaw Indian School, was farming in Busby, Montana in 1910, ranching in Busby, Montana in 1913, and farming in Busby, Montana in 1914.

Roundstone seems to have a two-word Indian name; the first word is "Sweet," but the second is illegible.

Melissa Cornelius Student File

Student file of Melissa Cornelius, a member of the Oneida Nation, who entered the school on August 28, 1897, and ultimately departed on June 30, 1907. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, news clippings, an application for enrollment, a report after leaving, and a former student response postcard indicating that in 1913 she was living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The file also contains letters and correspondence between Melissa and the school, and Melissa and her family members. A number of the letters discuss her purchasing a ticket for a football game at the school, while in others she inquires about her sister's health.

The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, news clippings, a medical/physical record, an application for enrollment, returned student surveys, outing evaluations, a report after leaving, a progress/conduct card, an outing record, and letters/correspondence. The file indicates Kie was a housekeeper in Ketchikan, Alaska in 1912.

The file indicates Smith was working as a store clerk in 1912 in Elbowoods, North Dakota, was living in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1914, and was living in Elbowoods, North Dakota in 1915.
