Luther Standing Bear (Kills Plenty) Student File

Student file of Luther Standing Bear, a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on October 6, 1879 and departed on July 6, 1885. The file contains a student information card, former student response postcards, news clippings, correspondence, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving indicating he was working as a clerk in a store in Sioux City, Iowa in 1913.

Henry Roman Nose Student File

Student file of Henry Roman Nose, a member of the Cheyenne Nation, who entered the school on October 6, 1879 and departed on September 18, 1883. The file contains newspaper clippings, a letter/correspondence, former student response postcards, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving.The file indicates that Roman Nose was farming in Bickford, Oklahoma from 1910 to 1914 and that Roman Nose went on to become Chief of the Cheyennes. The file also indicates that Roman Nose was that Roman Nose was a member of the Fort Marion prisoners group in St. Augustine, Florida before attending the Hampton Institute and eventually Carlisle.

Samuel High Bear (High Bear) Student File

The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving indicating High Bear was working as a farmer in St. Francis, South Dakota in 1910.

Student file of Little Chief, a member of the Cheyenne Nation, who entered the school on October 6, 1879, and departed on January 26, 1880.  The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving that indicates that he was farming in 1910 in Weatherford, Oklahoma.

Robert American Horse (Cut Ears) Student File

Student file of Robert American Horse (Cut Ears), a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on October 6, 1879 and ultimately departed on June 14, 1887. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains a student information card, a trade/position record card, a report after leaving, a returned student survey and a news clipping. The file indicates American Horse stockman in Manderson, South Dakota in 1910 and a farmer in Kyle, South Dakota in 1912.

Note: In a letter describing the first students to enter the school, Pratt refers to this student as Makpaksa and Cut Ears.

Raymond Stewart Student File

Student file of Raymond Stewart, a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on October 6, 1879, and ultimately departed on July 8, 1889. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, photographs, letters/correspondence related to the American Indian Association and Stewart's reflection on his time at Carlisle, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving. The file indicates Stewart was a painter in Rosebud, South Dakota in 1910 and living in Rosebud, South Dakota in 1912.

Note: In this file the student is identified as both Raymond White Bull and Raymond Stewart.

Note: It is likely that Stewart married fellow student Amy Crowdog.

William Spotted Tail Student File

Student file of William Spotted Tail (Stays at Home), a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on October 6, 1879, and departed on June 23, 1880. The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, correspondence about returning his land patent, a report after leaving, and a former student response postcard that indicates Spotted Tail was working as a farmer in Cut Meat, South Dakota in 1913.

Student file of William Cohoe, a member of the Cheyenne Nation, who entered the school on October 6, 1879 and departed on March 2,1880 . The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey and report after leaving indicating that Cohoe was a farmer living in Bickford, Oklahoma with his wife and children in 1910.

Student file of Mabel Doanmoe (Little), a member of the Kiowa Nation, who entered the school on October 27, 1879 and departed on July 1, 1882. The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving indicating that in 1910 Doanmoe had married Lucius Aitsan and was living in Anadarko, Oklahoma.

Henry North Student File

Student file of Henry North, a member of the Arapahoe Nation, who entered the school on October 27, 1879 and departed on June 22, 1886. The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, a former student response postcard, and a report after leaving. The file indicates North attended the Haskell Institute in 1890 and 1891, was working as an assistant farmer for the government in Bridgeport, Oklahoma in 1910, and as a farmer in Geary, Oklahoma in 1913.

Student file of John Washa (also known as John Washee and Tomahawk), a member of the Cheyenne Nation, who entered the school on October 27, 1879, and departed on July 1, 1882.  The file contains a student information card, a newspaper clipping, correspondence, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving that indicates that in 1910 he was farming in Clinton, Oklahoma.

Alfred Brown (Na'koya'ta) Student File

Student file of Alfred Brown (Na'koya'ta), a member of the Cheyenne Nation, who entered the school on October 27, 1879, and departed on April 3, 1883.  The file contains a student information card, a former student response postcard, a returned student survey, correspondence, and a report after leaving indicating that he was living in Oklahoma between 1910 and 1913, working as an interpreter and evangelist.

Thomas Carlisle Student File

Student file of Thomas Carlisle, a member of the Cheyenne Nation, who entered the school on October 27, 1879, and departed on February 2, 1891.  The file contains student information cards, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving that indicates that he was working as a medical doctor in Watonga, Oklahoma, in 1910.

Note: Carlisle also went by the names Blackrobe and Tom Turner. Carlisle was the father of student Nina Carlisle.

U.S. Grant (Grant Lefthand) Student File

Student file of U.S. Grant (Grant Lefthand). No entrance or departure dates are given, and no Nation is given. The file contains a returned student survey and a report after leaving indicating that Grant was married to Kate Stalker and working as a clerk in an Indian Trader store in Darlington, Oklahoma in 1911.

Note: This person was known as U.S. Grant when he was a student, and as Grant Lefthand after leaving. Grant was a member of the Arapaho nation who arrived at the school on October 27, 1879 and departed on June 21, 1881.

Lucius Aitsan (Cute) Student File

Student file of Lucius Aitsan, a member of the Kiowa Nation, who entered the school on October 27, 1879 and departed on July 1, 1882.  The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving indicating that Aitsan was working as a farmer in Saddle Mountain, Oklahoma in 1911.

Note: Other documentation indicates Aitsan was married to former student Mabel Doanmore.

The file indicates North had married Andrew Tasso, was a housekeeper in Kingfisher, Oklahoma in 1910, and was an assistant matron at the Cheyenne & Arapahoe School in Darlington, Oklahoma in 1913.
