Guy Jones (Hepan) Student File

Student file of Guy Jones (Hepan), a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on August 27, 1897, and departed on June 28, 1900. The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, a news clipping about his appointment as Industrial Teacher at the Wild Rice River Boarding school, and a report after leaving indicating he was working for the Indian Service in Standing Rock, North Dakota, in 1911.

Note: Although the student file does not reflect it, other records indicate Jones was a graduate in the Class of 1900.

Melissa Cornelius Student File

Student file of Melissa Cornelius, a member of the Oneida Nation, who entered the school on August 28, 1897, and ultimately departed on June 30, 1907. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, a news clipping, an application for enrollment, a report after leaving, and a former student response postcard indicating that in 1913 she was living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The file also contains correspondence between Melissa and the school, and Melissa and her family members. A number of the letters discuss her purchasing a ticket for a football game at the school, while in others she inquires about her sister's health.

Student file of Casper Cornelius, a member of the Oneida Nation, who entered the school on August 28, 1897 and ultimately departed on July 18, 1907. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, news clippings, a trade/position record card, a returned student survey, a photograph of the mill where Cornelius worked, a report after leaving, former student response postcards, and correspondence. The file indicates Cornelius attended the Chilocco Indian School in Oklahoma and operated a restaurant in Bucklin, Kansas in 1916.

The file indicates Day worked for the Santa Fe Railroad in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1912 and was living in Gallup, New Mexico in 1915.

The file indicates Kie was a housekeeper in Ketchikan, Alaska in 1912.

James E. Johnson Student File

Student file of James E. Johnson, a member of the Stockbridge Nation, who entered the school on November 18, 1897 and ultimately departed on June 1, 1904. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains a former student response postcard, a photograph, student information cards, a returned student survey, correspondence, news clippings, and a report after leaving.

The file indicates Johnson was an All American quarterback and captain for the Carlisle Football team, finished Dickinson College Preparatory School (Conway Hall) in 1902, attended Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania for two years, graduated from the Northwestern Dental School in Chicago, Illinois in 1907. Additionally, Johnson was working as a dentist in Chicago, Illinois in 1908, as a dental surgeon in San Juan, Puerto Rico from 1909 to 1916.

The file indicates that Screamer married fellow student Nannie Saunooke at the school, in a ceremony directed by Reverend G. M. Diffenderfer, was living in Asheville, North Carolina in 1909, working as a printer and was a musician in his own orchestra in Ashville, North Carolina in 1910 and 1911.

The file indicates Smith was working as a store clerk in 1912 in Elbowoods, North Dakota, was living in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1914, and was living in Elbowoods, North Dakota in 1915.

Note: Although this file shows Gros Ventre, a member of the Fort Berthold community has indicated that this individual is actually Hidatsa.

The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file indicates Skenandore was living in West De Pere, Wisconsin taking care of her blind mother in 1912 and living in West De Pere, Wisconsin in 1914.
