Student file of Clarence White Thunder (Big Feather), a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on November 14, 1883 and ultimately departed on April 27, 1897. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, returned student surveys, a former student response postcard, letters/correspondence, and a report after leaving. The file indicates White Thunder was an assistant farmer at the Rosebud Agency in Rosebud, South Dakota in 1907 and a rancher in Cutmeat, South Dakota from 1911 to 1914.

Note: In this file the student is identified as Clarence White Thunder and Big White Thunder.

The file indicates Red Eagle was housekeeping in Baxter Springs, Kansas in 1907 and 1910 and housekeeping in Quapaw, Oklahoma in 1915.

Student file of Annie Kowuni (Tsa-i-ka-weet-sa), a member of the Pueblo Nation, who entered the school on October 3, 1886, graduated in 1897, and departed on September 29, 1898. The file contains a student information card, a trade/position record card, former student response postcard, returned student surveys, report after leaving, and a letter/correspondence. The file indicates Kowuni attended the Drexel Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1897 and 1898, was a laundress in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1907, a housewife in Casa Blanca, New Mexico in 1909, and an assistant seamstress in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1912 and 1913.

Note: At the time of scanning at the U.S. National Archives, a document in this student file seemed to relate to a different student, Chauncey E. Archiquette. That document has now been included with the Chauncey E. Archiquette file: NARA_RG 75_Series 1327_box 136_folder 5324.

Note: Although this card shows an entry date of November 3, this is an error, with other sources all showing the day of arrival on October 3.

Sarah Smith Student File

Student file of Sarah Smith, a member of the Oneida Nation, who entered the school on June 22, 1888, graduated in 1897, and ultimately departed on September 29, 1898. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, returned student surveys, letters/correspondence, and a report after leaving. The file indicates Smith graduated from the Carlisle Commercial College in 1899, was the librarian at the Carlisle Indian School from 1897 to 1901, and keeping her own house in Oneida, Wisconsin in 1907, 1910, and 1913.

Note: In this file the student is referred to as Sarah Smith and Sara Smith.

Student information card of Sarah Smith, a member of the Oneida Nation, who entered the school on June 22, 1888 and departed on September 29, 1898. The file indicates Smith had graduated in 1897, married Charles F. King, and was living in West De Pere, Wisconsin in 1913.

Alexander Upshaw Student File

Student file of Alexander Upshaw, a member of the Crow Nation, who entered the school on December 16, 1888, graduated in 1897, and departed on March 8, 1898. The file contains a student information card, newspaper clippings, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving indicating that as of 1907 Upshaw had married Emma Young and was farming in St. Xavier, Montana, but that he died in Oct. 1909.

Student file of Lizzie Hill, a member of the Cheyenne Nation, who entered the school on January 1, 1889, graduated in 1897, and departed on August 22, 1898. The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving. The file indicates Hill was a housewife in Walthill, Nebraska in 1909 and 1910.

Note: When Lizzie Hill first enrolled at the school she was identified as being from the Cheyenne Nation. In some school documents, including the information about her graduation, she is identified as being a member of the Sioux nation.

Student information card of Lizzie Hill, a member of the Sioux Nation. The information card indicates that Hill had graduated in 1897, married Joel Tyndall, and was living in Walthill, Nebraska in 1913. 

Note: When Lizzie Hill first enrolled at the school she was identified as being from the Cheyenne Nation. In some school documents, including this card and the information about her graduation, she is identified as being a member of the Sioux nation. Information in other records also shows Hill arrived on January 1, 1889 and departed on August 22, 1898.

The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file indicates Gruett was a disciplinarian at the Mt. Pleasant School in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan from 1907 to 1911 and a farmer in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan in 1913.

The file contains student information cards, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving indicating that in 1915 Cornelius had married Elizabeth Skenandore and was farming in West Depere, Wisconsin.

The file contains photographs, news clippings, returned student surveys, a former student response postcard, a report after leaving, and letters/correspondence. The file indicates Miller attended a kindergarten training school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was a teacher in Chilocco, Oklahoma from 1907 to 1909, a teacher in Otoe, Oklahoma in 1910, and an assistant clerk in Sisseton, South Dakota in 1912.

Edward Rogers (Enwwayie dung) Student File

Student file of Edward Rogers (Enwwayie dung), a member of the Chippewa Nation, who entered the school on November 15, 1890, graduated in 1897, and departed on July 2, 1901. The file contains news clippings, former student response postcards, a student information card, a returned student survey, a report after leaving, and letters/correspondence.

The file indicates Rogers was the captain of the 1900 Carlisle football team and later coached the team.  The file also indicates that Rogers attended the Dickinson College Preparatory School (Conway Hall), Dickinson College, Dickinson Law School, and the University of Minnesota Law School, was practicing law in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1907, was an attorney at law in Walker, Minnesota from 1909 to 1913, and was elected to the head chief of the Chippewas in 1913.
