Clarence White Thunder (Big Feather) Student File

Student file of Clarence White Thunder (Big Feather), a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on November 14, 1883 and ultimately departed on April 27, 1897. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, returned student surveys, a former student response postcard, letters/correspondence, and a report after leaving. The file indicates White Thunder was an assistant farmer at the Rosebud Agency in Rosebud, South Dakota in 1907 and a rancher in Cutmeat, South Dakota from 1911 to 1914.

Note: In this file the student is identified as Clarence White Thunder and Big White Thunder.

Siceni Nori Student File

Student file of Siceni Nori, a member of the Pueblo Nation, who entered the school on August 24, 1884, graduated in 1894, and ultimately departed on December 3, 1895. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains news clippings, student information cards, a report after leaving, and letters/correspondence. The file indicates Nori was a pitcher on the baseball team at Carlisle, attended Dickinson College for two years, was made a thirty-second degree Mason and was chief clerk to the Superintendent of the Carlisle Indian School in 1911, and was living in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1917.

The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, a letter, and a report after leaving indicating that in 1910 Anderson was farming in Bibo, New Mexico.

Frank Hudson Student File

Student file of Frank Hudson, a member of the Pueblo Nation, who entered the school on October 3, 1886, graduated in 1896, and departed on March 31, 1897. The file contains news clippings, a trade/position record card, a student information card, financial transactions, and letters/correspondence. The file indicates Hudson was a quarterback and kicker on the Carlisle football team as well as being a captain on the basketball and baseball teams, a financial clerk at the Carlisle Indian School in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, was farming on shares in Wycombe, Pennsylvania in 1911, and was in the advertising business in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1917.

James Seweyea Student File

Student file of James Seweyea, a member of the Queres Nation, who entered the school on August 24, 1884 and ultimately departed on September 17, 1890. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, letters/correspondence about Seweyea's life in New Mexico, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving that indicates Seweyea was working as a farmer in Laguna, New Mexico in 1917.

Seweyea is listed as a member of the Queres Nation on his first student information card, but the student information card used for Seweyea's return to Carlisle lists him as a member of the Pueblo Nation.

Student information card of Wilbur Dechezin (De-che-zin), a member of the Apache Nation, who entered the school on April 30, 1887. Dechezin died on June 9, 1890 while attending the school and was buried in the cemetery on the school grounds.

Student file of Daniel Sleeping Bear, a member of the Gros Ventre Nation, who entered the school on April 13, 1890, and departed on July 5, 1893.  The file contains a student information, correspondence, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving indicating that, in 1910, Bear was working as a stockraiser in Hays, Montana.

Student file of Wilbough Smith, a member of the Oneida Nation, who entered the school on August 28, 1891, and departed on June 29, 1895.  The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving indicating that Smith was working in West De Pere, Wisconsin in 1912.

Note:  Smith is also known by the first name Wilber

Leander Gansworth Student File

Student file of Leander Gansworth, a member of the Tuscarora Nation, who entered the school on September 16, 1892, graduated in 1896, and ultimately departed on September 30, 1896. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, former student response postcards, a trade/position record card, news clippings, returned student surveys, a report after leaving, and letters/correspondence. The file indicates Gansworth was the foreman of the Carlisle School Printing Office for two years, was the head of the Linotype Composition Company in Davenport, Iowa in 1913, and was the physical director with the American Expeditionary Force stationed at the YMCA College in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1918.
