Cora Elm Student File

Student file of Cora Elm, a member of the Oneida Nation, who entered the school on December 23, 1906, graduated in 1913, and ultimately departed on September 24, 1914. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, photographs, financial transactions, applications for enrollment, outing records, a progress/conduct card, outing evaluations, medical/physical records, a returned student survey, and letters/correspondence.

The file indicates that Elm was a student in the nurses training course at the Protestant Episcopal Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1913 and 1914 on the outing program, continued the course in 1914, and graduated in 1916.  It also shows that she was the supervisor of wards at the Protestant Episcopal Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1917, and was a nurse with the American Expeditionary Force, Unit 34 based in France in 1917 and 1918.

James Holstein Student File

Student file of James Holstein, a member of the Chippewa Nation, who entered the school on September 8, 1911 and ultimately graduated in 1918, departing on June 8, 1918. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, applications for enrollment, physical records, an outing record, letters/correspondence, financial transactions, an outing evaluation, a certificate of transfer, and a certificate of promotion. The files indicate that after graduating, Holstein worked at a shipyard in Hog Island, Pennsylvania.

Student file of Sadie Metoxen, a member of the Oneida Nation, who entered the school on September 24, 1911, graduated in 1918, and departed on June 15, 1918. The file contains a student information card, applications for enrollment, a physical record, letters/correspondence, medical/physical records, a certificate of transfer, outing evaluations, a conduct card, financial transactions, and an outing record. The files indicate that Metoxen was interested in entering the Nurses' Training School at Episcopal Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

A note in the file says she re-enrolled on September 1, 1917, but no final departure date is given. The file indicates that Metoxen was living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1918.

Student file of Julia Hill, a member of the Oneida Nation, who entered the school on November 22, 1913 and departed on January 9, 1917. The file contains a student information card, an application for enrollment, a financial transaction, a trade/position record card, an outing record, medical/physical records, and letters/correspondence.

Note: Within this folder of Julia HIll documents filed at the U.S. National Archives was a trade/position record card for a Julius Hill, who does not appear to have been a student at Carlisle.
