Note: In a version at Yale of the photograph of the first male students, Richard Henry Pratt identifies one of them as Harrison Cloud Shield. There is no student with that name and Pratt does not identify any of the sitters of Roger, so we believe that the student identified there as Harrison is Roger.

Note: Although this file does not show it, Blue Teeth was among the first group of students to arrive on October 6, 1879 from the Rosebud agency. She married student Frank Lock.

Julia Good Voice (Julia Iron Eagle Feather) Student Information Card

Student information card of Julia, a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on October 6, 1879 and departed on June 19, 1882.

Note: Although it is not included here, this student seems to have been commonly known as Julia Good Voice. She married fellow student Ralph Iron Eagle Feather and was the mother of Lydia Biddle Eagle Feather. She, Ralph and Lydia returned to the school on October 10, 1886. Julia's reenrollment is documented on cards under her married name, Julia Iron Eagle Feather.

Alvan (One That Kills Horse) Student Information Card

Student information card of Alvan (One That Kills Horse), a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on October 6, 1879 and died on March 29, 1882 while attending the school. He was buried in the cemetery on the school grounds.

Note: In a letter describing the first students to arrive, Pratt refers to this student as Sunka-wa-ken-ktah and One That Kills Horse. The student's band is identified as Brule.

Note: Mather appears to have taken or been given the name of school employee Sarah Mather. She married interpreter Charles Tackett and so is also known as Sarah Tackett.
