Student file of Thomas Hanbury, a member of the Alaskan Nation, who entered the school on August 6, 1893 and departed on April 1, 1898. The file contains student information cards, a returned student survey, letters/correspondence, photographs of him and his family, and a report after leaving.
The file indicates Hanbury was working as a carpenter in Ketchikan, Alaska in 1910 and had recently gained United States Citizenship. After leaving Carlisle, Hanbury was also involved in the Nome Gold Rush in Alaska. Hanbury explained that in 1900 he "was among the first few that found the gold at Nome."
Note: The student is referred to in the file as both Thomas Hanbury and Thomas Hamburg, but the latter is likely an error in transcription.
