Shela Brown Guthrie (Che-ke-kah) Student File

Student file of Shela Brown Guthrie (Che-ke-kah), a member of the Sac & Fox Nation, who entered the school on August 29, 1896 and ultimately departed on May 7, 1911. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, an application for enrollment, medical/physical records, a news clipping, an outing record, a progress/conduct card, a returned student survey, trade/position record card, and a report after leaving indicating that Guthrie was keeping house for her sister and herself in the Sac & Fox Agency, Oklahoma in 1910 and living in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1911.

Note: In this file the student is identified as Shela Guthrie Brown, Shelah Guthrie, and Shela B. Guthrie, as well as Che-ke-kah and Chi-ki-ka.

Note: A document of Shela Guthrie Brown was originally found in the folder of another student; Emily Poodry, NARA_RG 75_Series 1327_box 96_folder 4246.

Lilian Passedoah Student File

Student file of Lilian J. Passedoah, a member of the Shoshone Nation, who entered the school on June 25, 1904 and departed on June 21, 1909. The file contains a student information card, a medical/physical record, former student response postcards, a progress/conduct record, and a report after leaving indicating Passedoah was a housewife in Fort Washakie, Wyoming in 1914.

Note: In this file the student is identified as Lillie Passedoah, Lilian Passedoah, and Lily Passedoah.

Iva Metoxen Student File

Student file of Iva Metoxen, a member of the Oneida Nation, who entered the school on December 23, 1906, graduated in 1913, and ultimately departed on June 11, 1913. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, medical/physical records, an application for enrollment, outing evaluations, a trade/position record card, a progress/conduct card, a report after leaving, an outing record, returned student surveys, a news clipping, and letters/correspondence. The file indicates that Metoxen was living in Wales, Wisconsin in 1914 and was an assistant seamstress with the Genoa Boarding School in Genoa, Nebraska in 1914.

Lizzie Gibson Student File

Student file of Lizzie Gibson, a member of the Onondaga Nation, who entered the school on August 25, 1907, and departed on September 3, 1912. The file contains a student information card, a former student response postcard, outing evaluations, an application for enrollment, a conduct card, outing records, and a report after leaving indicating Gibson was doing housework in Syracuse, New York in 1914. 

Note: The student is known as aboth Elizabeth Gibson and Lizzie Gibson.

Flora Peters Student File

Student file of Flora Peters, a member of the Chippewa Nation, who entered the school on September 16, 1908, graduated in 1917, and ultimately departed on May 24, 1917. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, applications for enrollment, a physical record, a conduct card, correspondence, outing evaluations, certificates of promotion, financial transactions, certificates of promotion, and an outing record. The files indicate Peters studied home economics, sewing in particular, and after leaving Carlisle began working as an assistant matron at the Pine Ridge Boarding School located in South Dakota.

Agnes Waite Student File

Student file of Agnes Waite, a member of the Serrano Nation, who entered the school on October 24, 1908, graduated in 1912, and departed on September 5, 1912. The file contains a progress/conduct card, a news clipping, a student information card, applications for enrollment, medical/physical records, outing evaluations, financial transactions, a report after leaving, outing records, returned student surveys and letters/correspondence. The file indicates that Agnes was a teacher at Ft. Yuma Indian School in Yuma, Arizona, in 1915.

Note: At the time of the scanning at the U.S. National Archives, a document in this student file seemed to be related to a different student, Fred Cardin. Those documents have now been included with the Fred Cardin file: NARA_1327_b140_f5529.
