Fred Big Horse (Big Horse) Student File

Student file of Fred Big Horse (Big Horse), a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on November 14, 1883 and ultimately graduated in 1893 and departed on March 6, 1893. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, letters/correspondence, a returned student survey, a former student response postcard, a newspaper clipping, and a report after leaving indicating that in 1913 Big Horse was farming in Cutmeat, South Dakota. 

Note: This student is also referred to as Frederick Martin Big Horse and Frederick Bighorse.

Festus Pelone (Lizard) Student File

Student file of Festus Pelone (Lizard), a member of the Apache Nation, who entered the school on February 2, 1884 and departed on December 28, 1894. The file contains letters/correspondence, student information cards, a former student survey, and a report after leaving. The file indicates Pelone was living in San Carlos, Arizona in 1910 and worked as a night watchman for the Rice Indian School in 1912.

Student file of Thomas Kose, a member of the Queres Nation, who entered the school on October 4, 1885 and departed on July 5, 1893. The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, a former student response postcard, and a report after leaving indicating that he was stock raising and farming in Valencia County, New Mexico in 1911.

Abram Hill Student File

Student file of Abram Hill, a member of the Oneida nation, who entered the school on June 22, 1887 and ultimately departed on May 19, 1897. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, a letter/correspondence, an index card that recommends him as a farmer, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving. The file indicates Hill was a farmer in Oneida, Wisconsin in 1911, 1912, and 1913, and living in West De Pere, Wisconsin in 1914.

Note: In this file the student is identified primarily as Abram Hill while at the school and as Charles Abram Hill or Charles A. Hill after departing. 

Note: This file originally contained an application for enrollment for another student; Abraham M. Hill. The card has since been moved to the correct file; NARA_1327_RG 75_Series 1327_box 154_folder 6044.

Amos Hamilton (Kah-wah-wi-q) Student File

Student file of Amos Hamilton (Kah-wah-wi-q), a member of the Osage Nation, who entered the school on June 22, 1888 and ultimately departed on December 10, 1896. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards and a report after leaving indicating that Hamilton was living in Hominy, Oklahoma in 1910.

Benjamin Caswell Student File

Student file of Benjamin Caswell, a member of the Chippewa Nation, who entered the school on September 9, 1889, graduated in 1892, and ultimately departed on June 10, 1895. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, a trade/position record card, photographs, a financial transaction, news clippings, returned student surveys, former student response surveys, letters/correspondence, and a report after leaving.

The file indicates Caswell was the first captain of the Carlisle football team in 1892, attended the Dickinson College Prepatory School, was principal teacher in charge of the Cass Lake Indian School in Cass Lake, Minnesota in 1907, superintendent of the Cass Lake Indian School and Special Distribution Agent in Cass Lake, Minnesota in 1909, and overseer on timber matters in Cass Lake, Minnesota in 1912.

Note: Caswell married fellow student Leila Cornelius.

Note: At the time of scanning at the U.S. National Archives, a document in this student file seemed to relate to a different student, Benjamin F. Caswell. That document has now been included with the Benjamin F. Caswell file: NARA_RG 75_Series 1327_box 123_folder_4941.

Charles Buck (Brockey) Student File

Student file of Charles Buck (Brockey), a member of the Piegan Nation, who entered the school on March 26, 1890 and departed on June 3, 1895. The file contains four picture postcards, two photographs, returned student surveys, correspondence, a news clipping, a student information card, a former student response postcard, and a report after leaving that indicates Buck was a rancher in Browning, Montana in 1913.

Note: Buck married fellow student Spyna Devereaux.

Adam Spring Student File

Student file of Adam Spring, a member of the Seneca Nation, who entered the school on September 16, 1892 and ultimately departed on June 29, 1900. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, a returned student survey, a report after leaving, correspondence related to Spring attending commencement week exercises, and former student response postcards indicating that Spring was working in a machine shop in Rochester, New York in 1914.

John Kawi Student File

Student file of John Kawi, a member of the Pueblo Nation, who entered the school October 18, 1894 and departed September 28, 1899. The file contains a student information card listing five outings and a report after leaving which indicates that Kawi was farming in Bibo, New Mexico in 1910.
