Raymond Stewart Student File

Student file of Raymond Stewart, a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on October 6, 1879, and ultimately departed on July 8, 1889. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, photographs, correspondence related to the American Indian Association and Stewart's reflection on his time at Carlisle, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving. The file indicates Stewart was a painter in Rosebud, South Dakota in 1910 and living in Rosebud, South Dakota in 1912.

In school documentation Raymond Stewart's name is also spelled Raymond Stuart and Raymond B. Stewart. He is also known as Paints Dust, Mah-kah-ke-chu, and Raymond White Bull.

Note: It is likely that Stewart married fellow student Amy Crowdog.
