Margaret La Vatta Student File

Student file of Margaret La Vatta, a member of the Shoshone nation, who entered the school on October 1, 1907 and departed on April 11, 1912. The file includes a news clipping, a trade card, a returned student survey, a student information card, a report after leaving, a progress card, an outing evaluation, and an outing record. La Vatta married a man named Robert F. LaSalle, and was brought before federal authorities due to their different races. After they proved their feelings for each other to be true the charges were dropped.

In school documentation Margaret La Vatta's name is also spelled Margaret LaVatta. She is also known as Marguerita Lavatta and Marguerite LaVatta. Her married name is Margaret La Salle (Mrs. Robert F. LaSalle or Mrs. Roberta F. LaSalle).
