Student Files

The Student Files section of the website features digitized copies of paper records on individual students at the school. These records were maintained by the administrative offices at the school during its years of operation. A variety of personal information about each student may be found within these files, including family background, age, height and weight. Files may also include information about admission and dates of attendance, outings, health, school activities, and life after separation from the school. A guide to the types of documents typically found among these files can be found here. Today these records are preserved at the U. S. National Archives within Record Group 75, Entry numbers 1327 through 1330.

John Washa (Tomahawk) Student File

Student file of John Washa (also known as John Washee and Tomahawk), a member of the Cheyenne Nation, who entered the school on October 27, 1879, and departed on July 1, 1882.  The file contains a student information card, a newspaper clipping, correspondence, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving that indicates that in 1910 he was farming in Clinton, Oklahoma.

Student information card of Laura Doanmore, a member of the Kiowa Nation, who entered the school on October 27, 1879 and departed on July 8, 1889. The file indicates Doanmore was married and living in Anadarko, Oklahoma in 1913.

Etadleuh Doanmoe Student File

Student file of Etadleuh Doanmoe, a member of the Kiowa Nation, who entered the school on October 27, 1879 and ultimately departed on January 2, 1888. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, a photograph, and a newspaper clipping. The files indicate that Doanmoe married Tone-adle-mah, and after leaving the school became a missionary.

Student information card of Nancy Renville, a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on November 6, 1879 and departed on August 17, 1880. The file indicates Renville was married and living in Peever, South Dakota in 1913.

Joseph Wishecoby Student File

Student file of Joseph Wishecoby, a member of the Menominee Nation, who entered the school on November 6, 1879 and ultimately departed on June 17, 1887. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards and a report after leaving that indicates Wishecoby was employed as a laborer in Neopit, Wisconsin in 1910.

Student file of Nancy Renville, a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on November 6, 1879 and departed on August 17, 1880. The file contains a student information card, a returned, a  student survey, and a report after leaving indicating she was a housewife in Peever, South Dakota in 1911.

Frank Eagle Student File

Student file of Frank Eagle, a member of the Ponca Nation, who entered the school on February 20, 1880 and departed on December 2, 1883. The file contains a student information card and a returned student survey. The file indicates Eagle was working as a farmer in Bliss, Oklahoma.

Harriet M. Elder Student File

Student file of Harriet Mary Elder, a member of the Nez Perce Nation, who entered the school on February 20, 1880 and departed on August 27, 1886. The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey in which she writes about her role as president of the Nez Perce women's missionary society, a former student response postcard, and a report after leaving. The file indicates Elder was married to James Stuart and living in Kooskia, Idaho, in 1913. The file also contains news clippings from April 1915 in which she writes about her garden and Nez Perce homes.

Note: In this file the student is referred to both as Harriet Elder and under her married name Harriet Stuart.

Jesse Paul Student File

Student file of Jesse Paul, a member of the Nez Perce Nation, who entered the school on February 20, 1880, and departed on July 6, 1888. The file contains a student information card, a former student response postcard, a returned student survey, and a returned student survey indicating that Paul was working as a forest guard in Reubens, Idaho in 1913.

John Bull Student File

Student file of John Bull, a member of the Ponca Nation, who entered the school on February 20, 1880 and departed on July 10, 1883. The file contains a student information card, former student response postcard, report after leaving, and returned student survey. The file indicates that Bull was living in White Eagle in 1910 and was a farmer in White Eagle, Oklahoma in 1911 and 1913.
