Student Files

The Student Files section of the website features digitized copies of paper records on individual students at the school. These records were maintained by the administrative offices at the school during its years of operation. A variety of personal information about each student may be found within these files, including family background, age, height and weight. Files may also include information about admission and dates of attendance, outings, health, school activities, and life after separation from the school. A guide to the types of documents typically found among these files can be found here. Today these records are preserved at the U. S. National Archives within Record Group 75, Entry numbers 1327 through 1330.

Student file of Mary Ealy, a member of the Pueblo (Zuni) Nation, who entered the school on July 31, 1880, and departed on July 10, 1883. The file contains a student information card, and a report after leaving indicating Ealy was living in Zuni, New Mexico in 1910.

Henry Pratt Taawayite Student File

Student file of Henry Pratt Taawayite, a member of the Comanche Nation, who entered the school on September 1, 1880, and departed on May 9, 1881.  The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving indicating that Taawayite was working as a police officer at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and lived in Apache, Oklahoma.

The file indicates Spread Hands was a housewife in Cantonment, Oklahoma in 1910 and a housewife in Eagle City, Oklahoma in 1914.

Note: In this file the student is identified as Jessie Spread Hands and Jessie Spreadhand.

Student file of Leonard William Tyler (Magpie), a member of the Cheyenne Nation, who entered the school on September 6, 1880 and departed on September 18, 1883. The file contains a student information card, a former student response postcard, a returned student survey, news clippings, a report after leaving, and a letter/correspondence. The file indicates that Tyler was given his name at the school by the aunt of former U.S. President John Tyler. Additionally, Tyler worked as a farmer and stock raiser in Calumet, Oklahoma in 1909, 1910, and 1913.

The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, a former student response postcard, returned student surveys, and a report after leaving. The file indicates Bent attended the Normal School in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania in 1892 and 1893, was an interpreter and keeping house for her family in Darlington, Oklahoma in 1907 and 1910, and was a housewife and interpreter in Calumet, Oklahoma in 1913.
