Student Files

The Student Files section of the website features digitized copies of paper records on individual students at the school. These records were maintained by the administrative offices at the school during its years of operation. A variety of personal information about each student may be found within these files, including family background, age, height and weight. Files may also include information about admission and dates of attendance, outings, health, school activities, and life after separation from the school. A guide to the types of documents typically found among these files can be found here. Today these records are preserved at the U. S. National Archives within Record Group 75, Entry numbers 1327 through 1330.

Harriet M. Elder Student File

Student file of Harriet Mary Elder, a member of the Nez Perce Nation, who entered the school on February 20, 1880 and departed on August 27, 1886. The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey in which she writes about her role as president of the Nez Perce women's missionary society, a former student response postcard, and a report after leaving. The file indicates Elder was married to James Stuart and living in Kooskia, Idaho, in 1913. The file also contains news clippings from April 1915 in which she writes about her garden and Nez Perce homes.

Note: In this file the student is referred to both as Harriet Elder and under her married name Harriet Stuart.

Virginia Ah-quo-yah Student File

Student file of Virginia Ah-quo-yah, a member of the Kiowa Nation, who entered the school on April 3, 1880, and departed on June 12, 1883. The file includes a student information card, a former student response postcard, letters and correspondence, and a report after leaving indicating Ah-quo-yah was house keeping while living with her husband in Lawton, Oklahoma in 1914. 

Note: Virginia was also known as Virginia Stumblingbear and wrote back to the school under her married name, Virginia Sahmaunt.

Student information card of Percy Zadoka, a member of the Keechi Nation, who entered the school on April 3, 1880 and departed on June 29, 1893. The file indicates that Zadoka graduated in 1890 and was living in Anadarko, Oklahoma in 1913.

The file indicates Zadoka was a farmer in Anadarko, Oklahoma from 1907 to 1913.

Mary Perry Student File

Student file of Mary Perry, a member of the Pueblo (Laguna) Nation, who entered the school on July 31, 1880, and ultimately departed on June 28, 1886. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, former student response postcards, a photograph, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving indicating Perry was a housekeeper in Casa Blanco, New Mexico in 1910 and 1911 and a housewife living in Casa Blanco, New Mexico in 1913.
