Student Files

The Student Files section of the website features digitized copies of paper records on individual students at the school. These records were maintained by the administrative offices at the school during its years of operation. A variety of personal information about each student may be found within these files, including family background, age, height and weight. Files may also include information about admission and dates of attendance, outings, health, school activities, and life after separation from the school. A guide to the types of documents typically found among these files can be found here. Today these records are preserved at the U. S. National Archives within Record Group 75, Entry numbers 1327 through 1330.

Oscar Bull Bear Student File

Student file of Oscar Bull Bear, a member of the Cheyenne Nation, who entered the school on October 27, 1879, and ultimately departed on September 15, 1885.  The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered.  The file contains student information cards, correspondence, and a report after leaving that indicates that he was working as a farmer in Clinton, Oklahoma, in 1910.

Henry North Student File

Student file of Henry North, a member of the Arapahoe Nation, who entered the school on October 27, 1879 and departed on June 22, 1886. The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, a former student response postcard, and a report after leaving. The file indicates North attended the Haskell Institute in 1890 and 1891, was working as an assistant farmer for the government in Bridgeport, Oklahoma in 1910, and as a farmer in Geary, Oklahoma in 1913.

Student file of Mary North, a member of the Arapahoe Nation, who entered the school on October 27, 1879 and departed on February 26, 1884. The file contains student information cards, a former student response postcard, letters/correspondence, a report after leaving, and a returned student survey. The file indicates North had married Andrew Tasso, was a housekeeper in Kingfisher, Oklahoma in 1910, and was an assistant matron at the Cheyenne & Arapahoe School in Darlington, Oklahoma in 1913.

Thomas Carlisle (Blackrobe) Student File

Student file of Thomas Carlisle (also referred to as Tom Turner and Blackrobe), a member of the Cheyenne Nation, who entered the school on October 27, 1879, and departed on February 2, 1891.  The file contains student information cards, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving that indicates that he was working as a medical doctor in Watonga, Oklahoma, in 1910.

The file contains student information cards, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving indicating Hippy was working as a housekeeper in Weatherford, Oklahoma in 1910.

Laura Toneadlemah Student File

Student file of Laura Toneadlemah, a member of the Kiowa Nation, who entered the school on October 27, 1879 and ultimately departed on July 8, 1889. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, newspaper clippings, letters and correspondence, a former student response postcard, and a report after leaving indicating, Doanmore was a housewife living in Anadarko, Oklahoma in 1911.

Note: In the file the student is referred to as Laura Toneadlemah, Laura Doanmore, and Laura Doanmoe.
